Can you briefly name a few of the opportunities you had while growing up that made you the person you are today?

As Hardus reflects on his life of entrepreneurship, he talks about catching his ‘big break’ at the age of 24 in the property development market. Hardus finds this an incredible blessing in helping him kickstart his career, as it occurred in a period when the economy was at a low.

Can you briefly describe your experience at in Harmonie?

Hardus has visited in Harmonie multiple times. With every visit, Hardus still finds in Harmonie a uniqueplaceto visit. Hardus spoke about how he was able to completely switch off once arriving at in Harmonie, something that doesn’t happen too often in the business sphere. Harduscontinues by saying that he felt grateful that everyone was able to absorb the peaceful environment and surroundings.

One thing that also stood out for Hardus was the prayer walk through the garden of inHarmonie as well as enjoying it with the people who surrounded him.

What do you think some of the challenges are in building a more harmonious South Africa?

In the business spherespecifically,Hardus explains that there are different challenges in different countries that are extremely country specific. South Africa comes with its own set of challenges. Although South Africa is beautifully diverse, in the business world, this often leadstopeople being misunderstood. “People don’t necessarily understand each other in the business world,and we struggle to understand each other’s viewpoints,” says Hardus.

How do you think a person moves from a state of disharmony to harmony?

Hardusemphasises one thing – intention. “Intention is key”, says Hardus. Personally, Hardus thinks it’s also extremely important to stay faith-based. “That’s a big cornerstone in my life,” Hardus explains. Hardus then elaborates by saying that each person should ask themselves, “Am I looking at the problem through my own eyes, or through God’s eyes.” Most of the time when you switch your perspective to looking at a situation through God’s eyes, your viewpoint will change, and you will receive greater clarity about where you are and what you need to do.

How do you and your organisation engage in this process of change?

Hardus can proudly say that their organisation continuously challenges and pushes boundaries. When they are faced with challenges, Hardus explains that they embrace them. They do this by knowing that they can never tackle anything without the seeking God and His guidance first.

Any words of advice or encouragement you would like to share with those who feel like they have lost hope.

Hardus shares his insights, saying that in times of hopelessness one should remain faithful and patient. Hardus continues by saying that one shouldn’t force an outcome you think you want, but rather what God has planned. “Sometimes, hopelessness is necessary,” says Hardus. Desperate times create character and can become cornerstones in your life. Hardusconcludes by saying that although findingsignificance isn’t easy, with patience, you will find your purpose. Be diligent and thankful because God has a plan. He will write your story,and your story will be great.
